Edwin H. Colpitts

Edwin Henry Colpitts (born January 19, 1872 in New Brunswick , Canada , † March 6, 1949 ) was an electrical engineer . The Colpitts circuit is named after him.

Colpitts studied at Harvard University until 1897. He worked until 1902 with the American Bell Telephone Company and then with the Western Electric Company in New York City , where he became research director in 1911.

When he retired in 1937, he was Vice President of Bell Telephone Laboratories .
