Live and act

As a young child, Wipf moved from Zurich to Chur, where his father took over the management of the Alexander Kuonis chalet factory . After attending school in Chur and working as a carpenter in the chalet factory, he studied architecture at the Polytechnic in Zurich from 1896 to 1900 . He got his first job in Pegli , but then went to Paris to continue studying there for four years at the École des Beaux-Arts . He was briefly employed in Basel before he became an assistant to Friedrich Bluntschli in Zurich in 1905 and also founded his own office. Wipf's built work can be found primarily in Zurich with residential buildings, but also as a special category with the city's new cinemas, such as Switzerland's first major cinema, the Capitol in Zurich. Further focal points are in Graubünden, where he worked for Gaudenz Issler's chalet factory in Davos , and in Ticino. There is also his main work, the German House (1912-15) in Agra, originally a branch of the Hochgebirgsklinik Davos, which had a history right up to the edge of the demolition and was well received in the media before it was renovated and returned as a hotel Was put into operation.

Wipf was very interested in building policy issues in Zurich. He was also interested in urban planning issues. Wipf took part in the international competition for a development plan for the city of Zurich from 1915 to 1918 and received a commendation there. In 1906, Wipf was a founding member of the Association of Swiss Architects and a member of the SIA . He was a member of the Zurich Masonic Lodge Modestia cum Libertate .
