Efim Antonowitsch von Kleist ( Russian Ефим Антонович Клейст ; * 1794 ; † February 16, 1857 in Kazan ), was Russian major general .

Efim Antonowitsch von Kleist was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Kleist and son of the royal Prussian lieutenant Anton David von Kleist (* 1745, † 1805), who entered Russian service in 1770 and was a nephew of the poet Ewald Christian von Kleist .

Career

Kleist received his training in the military orphanage, the later Pavlovsky Cadet Corps in Saint Petersburg . In 1817 he joined the Imperial Russian Army with the rank of ensign in the 18th Artillery Brigade . In 1819 he was transferred to the Ukraine and in 1820 he was promoted to lieutenant, in 1823 to lieutenant captain, in 1826 to captain and in 1829 to major. Kleist was then involved in the suppression of the November uprising in Poland . Here he received the Order of Vladimir IV. Class and the Order of Saint Anne III. Class. For his help in the capture of Warsaw , he was awarded the Virtuti Militari III. Class was awarded. From 1834 to 1836 he served in the cavalry , was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1836 for outstanding service and temporarily transferred to the Uhlans and finally received the Order of St. Stanislaus III in 1837 . Class. In 1839 Kleist was reassigned to a cavalry regiment, and in 1840 he was given command of the 4th Brigade of the Siberian Line Cossacks. In 1841, after 25 flawless years of service, he received the Order of St. George, IVth Class. In 1842 he was promoted to commander of the 3rd Brigade of the Siberian Line Cossacks and in 1843 to colonel. In 1846 Kleist was again awarded the Order of Saint Anne II. Class with the Imperial Crown and in 1847 was given command of the 2nd Brigade of the independent Siberian Cossack Corps. He was also up to the task of the high command over the border to Kyrgyzstan , which he was given in the following year , whereupon he received the Order of Vladimir III in 1849. Class was honored. In 1852 he was promoted to major general, but diminished in March of the same year.
