Efraín Orozco

Efraín Orozco Morales (born January 22, 1897 in Cajibío / Cauca , † August 27, 1975 in Bogotá ) was a Colombian composer, conductor and instrumentalist.

Orozco had first lessons from his mother, the guitarist Amelia Morales de Orozco, and then studied with Ignacio Tovar and Juan Calambás . At the age of twelve he joined the Banda del Regimiento Junín in Popayán and became its first trumpeter. After traveling through Central America for three years, he became director of the Banda Militar de Popayán .

In 1934 he founded the Efraín Orozco y sus alegres muchachos orchestra , with which he performed in numerous Colombian cities and on the radio and undertook a tour of South America that took him to Buenos Aires , where he lived for eighteen years. His orchestra included a. the musicians Gregorio Barrios , Leo Marini , Alejandro Tobar and Carlos Julio Ramírez .

After his return to Colombia, Orozco lived in Popayán, where he directed the Banda Sinfónica del Cauca . In addition to pasillos and bambucos, Orotco also composed dances such as boleros , porros and música tropical .
