Cajibío is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cauca in Colombia .

geography

Cajibío is located in the Provincia del Centro in Cauca at an altitude of 1765  m above sea level. NN , 28 km from Popayán between the western and central cordillera of the Colombian Andes . Cajibío belongs to the unofficial metropolitan area of ​​Popayán . The territory of the municipality is mountainous and is crossed by the Cauca , Palace , Cajibío and Urbio rivers. The municipality borders on Piendamó , Silvia and Totoró to the east, El Tambo and Morales to the west, Morales and Piendamó to the north and Popayán and El Tambo to the south.

history

Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous people of the Cajibíos , who belonged to the Paez group , lived in the area of ​​today's Cajibío . The place Cajibío was founded in 1560 by Carlos Velasco and Álvaro Paz.

The main industry in Cajibío is agriculture . In particular, coffee , sugar cane , bananas and asparagus are grown. In addition, poultry production and the timber industry play an important role.
