Balboa is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cauca in Colombia .

geography

Balboa is located in the south of Cauca in the Provincia del Sur . The municipality is bordered by Argelia and Patía in the north, Patía in the east, Mercaderes and Leiva in the department of Nariño in the south and Leiva and El Charco in Nariño in the west .

population

The municipality of Balboa has 26,384 inhabitants, of which 7884 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

The settlement of the area of ​​today's Balboa began in 1912. Initially, Balboa belonged to the municipality of Patía . Balboa has had parish status since 1967.
