Buenos Aires is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cauca in Colombia .

geography

Buenos Aires is located in the Provincia del Norte in Cauca at an altitude of 1200  m above sea level. NN , 115 km from Popayán . The area of ​​the municipality is mountainous and is crossed by the Cauca River . The municipality borders in the east on Santander de Quilichao , in the west on Suárez , López de Micay (both Cauca) and Buenaventura ( Valle del Cauca ), in the north on Jamundí and Buenaventura (both Valle del Cauca) and in the south on Suárez and Morales ( both Cauca) and the Ovejas River .

history

Buenos Aires was originally founded in 1536 on the Cerro Catalina mountain , as there was a mine there that worked in particular slaves who came from Africa. Over the years, the place was relocated twice and finally re-established in 1823 at the current location.
