Totoro is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cauca in Colombia .
geography
Totoró is located in the east of Cauca in the Provincia de Oriente , 30 km from Popayán at an altitude of 2750 meters in the central cordillera of the Colombian Andes and has an average annual temperature of 14 ° C. The municipality is bordered by Cajibío and Silvia in the north, Inzá in the east, Puracé and Popayán in the south and Popayán and Cajibío in the west.

history
Totoró was founded in 1815 and received parish status in 1835. The colonial era was characterized by the exploitation of the indigenous population in agricultural production. In opposition to the exploitation, the formation of the indigenous reserves Totoró , Paniquitá , Polindara , Jebalá and Novirao was enforced.

The main industries in Totoró are agriculture (especially potatoes , natural fibers , maize and winter onions are grown), cattle and milk production .
