Ephraim Trujillo

Efraim Trujillo (born February 28, 1969 in Lynwood (California) ) is an American jazz musician ( saxophone , composition ) who lives in the Netherlands.

Trujillo began playing the clarinet and later the saxophone at the age of six. He has lived in Amsterdam since 1980, where he studied between 1989 and 1994 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Tim Armacost (saxophone) and Misha Mengelberg (arrangement) and received his master's degree in 1994.

Trujillo is a long-time member of the fusion quartet The Ploctones , but also of Fra Fra Sound , The Preacher Men , Sven Schusters Shooster and the large-format New Cool Collective , with whom he recorded several albums and toured internationally. In recent years he has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival , the Standard Bank Jazz Festival in South Africa and the Tokyo Jazz Festival in Japan. He also worked for many years as a house musician for the NTR telecast Mijke & Co Live . There he had the opportunity to meet international stars such as Oleta Adams , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Gregory Porter , George Duke and Chris Potter to perform. Since 2014 he has been artistic director of the Amsterdam Funk Orchestra . In 2010, 2011 and 2013 he was nominated (with the Ploctones and with Ob6sions ) for the Edison Award . He worked as a duo with the pianist Tico Pierhagen. He can also be heard on the album Songs & Jives by the world music group Sefuba .
