The Evangelical Free Church Peace Chapel Wymeer (also called Baptist Chapel ) was the church of the former Wymeer Baptist congregation. It was built in 1900 and sold to a private buyer in 2017.

history

Initially, the local Baptists visited the congregation in Ihr , which is considered the mother congregation of all older East Frisian Baptist congregations, or the Dutch Baptist congregation in Vriescheloo. The believers in Wymeer were initially looked after as a branch church by theirs. In 1876/77 Hinderk Wilms, the son of the Baptist preacher Harm Willms from Ihr, moved to Wymeer and leased the mill there. The villagers noticed Wilms because he didn't sell bread on Sunday. Six people from the circle of friends created around Wilms, which initially met in Johann Haken's private house, were baptized by 1888. First, travel preachers led these meetings. In 1893 Wymeer was founded as an independent station and the services were held in the house next to the chapel today. The peace chapel with attached preacher's apartment dates from 1900. In 1921 the branch congregation became independent and appointed its own pastor, whom the congregation shared with the Baptist congregation in Ditzumerverlaat . Between 1930 and 1964, preachers from the neighboring congregations carried out substitute services. Then it came back to a cooperation with Ditzumerverlaat. From 1997 to October 31, 2010 the Wymeer congregation had its own preacher and has been vacant since then . In 2016 the community gave up its independence. The majority of its members joined the Weener Baptist Church. After the building was sold in 2017, it was converted into a residential building in 2018.

The simple brick building with a gable roof is part of a housing estate. The long sides of the building are structured by pilaster strips and finished off with a frieze . The gable side facing the street is also emphasized by a frieze. In 1962 the assembly room was redesigned. In this train, a large window front to the north side of the street was broken into and the main entrance was relocated to the right, western long side as seen from the street front. At the same time, a small foyer was created with cloakrooms and the community book table. On the north east side there was a raised round window with glass blocks and behind it two rectangular windows with glass blocks. A white cross was walled in to the left of the large window on the street side, the window and cross were framed by a white rectangle.
