The former gendarmerie barracks at Schlossgartenplatz 14 is a listed residential building in the southern Hessian city of Darmstadt . The house was built towards the end of the 19th century as part of a police barracks and is used as a residential building to the present day.

History and description

The former gendarmerie barracks originally consisted of an office building, a residential building and a separate horse stable. The office of the gendarmerie corps was located in the office . The freestanding corner building (service apartment building) built around 1885 has been preserved. Stylistically, the building belongs to the Wilhelminian style .

The facade has a picturesque, orange and red subtly banded brick facing and a subtle structure made of light sandstone . The facade is cautiously decorated with decorative anchors and layers of brick decoration. In addition to the house itself, its wrought-iron enclosure with a gate has also been preserved.

Monument protection

Today the former gendarmerie barracks is used for residential purposes. For architectural, architectural and city-historical reasons, the building is a listed building by the State of Hesse .
