Georg Wiesinger (born March 7, 1962 in Steyr ) is an Austrian agricultural sociologist .

Life

Georg Wiesinger grew up with his sister, who was one year younger than him, on his grandparents' small-scale farm in the community of Geiersberg , Ried im Innkreis district . He later moved to live with his parents in Linz. There he attended the Bundesrealgymnasium in Fadingerstrasse. After graduating from high school, Georg Wiesinger studied agriculture, specializing in plant production, at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. During his studies he was actively involved in the Austrian student body and in the student movement. In addition, he trained in sociology, philosophy and oriental studies. He spent several months in Nicaragua, Turkey and Iran. In 1986 he completed his agricultural studies with the academic degree of graduate engineer. In 1992 he received his doctorate as an external auditor at the University of Vienna in sociology on the subject of "Models of integration of the disabled in agriculture". Since 1989 he has been researching as an agricultural sociologist at the Federal Institute for Agriculture and Mountain Farming Issues in Vienna.

Georg Wiesinger has been secretary and organizer of the “Austrian Working Group for Rural Social Research” since 2000, and since 2015, together with Markus Schermer from the Institute for Sociology at the University of Innsbruck, spokesman for the Rural Social Research Section of the Austrian Society for Sociology (ÖGS).

His research focuses on rural poverty, social security, inter-company cooperation, rural living environments, social capital and social networks in rural areas, green care and social agriculture .
