Kurt Adolf Heinrich Schottmüller (born July 3, 1871 in Berlin , † August 11, 1919 in Danzig ) was a German historian and archivist .

Kurt Schottmüller was the son of the historian Konrad Schottmüller (1841–1893) and his wife Emma Wittich, his younger sister was the art historian Frida Schottmüller (1872–1936).

After graduating from high school in Berlin at Easter 1891, he studied history from 1891 to 1895 at the Universities of Marburg and Berlin . In June 1895 he passed the state examination for the higher archival service. In December 1896 he received his doctorate in Marburg with a thesis on the organization of the central administration in Kleve-Mark with Albert Naudé . In early 1897 he became a scientific assistant at the Provincial Museum and the State Library in Poznan . On April 2, 1898, he was taken on as a laborer in the Prussian archive service and worked at the State Archives in Posen, where in August 1900 he was appointed archive assistant. From April 1902 to October 1903 he worked at the Secret State Archives in Berlin before moving back to the State Archives in Posen. On April 1, 1906, he moved to the Danzig State Archives as archivist .

From 1904 he was married to Dorothea Stenzler (1881-1965), their daughter was the future artist Oda Schottmüller (1905-1943). However, his wife fell ill with a nervous disease in 1907, then lived in sanatoriums, and separated from him in 1913. Because of the maintenance payments for his wife, he and his daughter lived in Danzig in very modest circumstances. After the First World War he was emaciated and nervous and died of a heart attack in August 1919.
