Former Windisch Higher Technical College

The former Higher Technical College Windisch (HTL) is a school building in Windisch in the canton of Aargau and a cultural asset of national importance . Today it is part of the Windisch campus of the Northwestern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences .

description

The higher technical college, built from 1964 to 1966 according to plans by Fritz Haller , which was expanded to include the cafeteria and auditorium in 1986, consists of “steel chain structures with lattice girders and removable inner partition walls, with an outer skin made of chrome-nickel steel and anti-helios laminated glass. The balanced, interrelated cubes with the greenish iridescent glass jacket are of weightless elegance. "

The school was opened in 1965. In the initial phase, the rooms of the Windisch district school , the Windisch community hall and the Brugg trade school were used. At the beginning of the second year of study (October 1966), operations in the main and laboratory building could begin. The cafeteria and the auditorium were then built for financial reasons.

Building history and architecture

In 1957, the municipality of Windisch applied for the headquarters of the newly founded higher technical college and promised a contribution of 60,000 francs in the event of a positive decision . The technical center, which finally came to stand on the Brugg - Baden road in the immediate vicinity of the Brugg train station , was built between 1964 and 1966 according to plans by Fritz Haller . In a second phase, the cafeteria and auditorium were added in 1968.

With the task of building a newly founded and therefore not precisely defined school, the architects saw themselves compelled to develop spatial planning and building structures that allowed changes at any time with as little effort as possible. However, it turned out to be difficult to work out a complete building box as part of a current construction project; In this respect, the HTL Windisch was the trigger for Haller's later, object-independent building system studies. To increase flexibility in the area of the classrooms and drawing rooms, a distinction was made between room groups with normal installations in the main building and those with special installations in the laboratory building. In these structures, which are constructed as steel frame structures with trussed girders, with the exception of the conversion of the installation cores and the underlay floors, all components are prefabricated and dry-mounted. The curtain wall ( curtain wall ) consists of chrome-nickel steel and Anthelios laminated glass. All rooms are fully air-conditioned; all inner partitions can be dismantled. A sophisticated installation system allows great flexibility.
