The former Catholic church in Lage (Lippe) with address Bergstraße 12 stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

The small Catholic community in Lage used a former schoolhouse in Langen Strasse for church services and school lessons from 1881 to 1896. After the lease was canceled on October 1, 1897, the community decided to build its own church. 190 Catholics from Lage and the surrounding area contributed to the building with donations.

The parish bought the 1,000 m² property on Bergstrasse for 10,000 marks . Gustav Messmann became the architect . He planned a building that should include the school, rectory and church. The foundation stone was laid on June 24, 1897, and in October of the same year the school and rectory were ready to move into. In 1894, Lage had been promoted to a missionary vicarage and had hired its own clergyman. The actual church was consecrated on April 24, 1898. The construction cost 24,000 marks.

In 1931 the church was expanded to include the former school rooms and the parish apartment was redesigned. In 1987 the church was converted into a town house. The pastor's apartment became an archive.
