Ehmsendenkmal

The Ehmsendenkmal in Arnsberg commemorates the forestry council and founder of the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV) Ernst Ehmsen .

In 1897 the SGV erected a memorial in honor of the late Ehmsen. It is a pavilion-like dome building about 8 m high. Due to its special acoustics , the monument is also known as the “whisper house”.

On the front side, next to a representation of Ehmsen, there is an inscription in gold: Its founder SGV and the dates 1891 for the foundation of the association and 1897 for the construction of the monument.

The building rises on the eastern side of the oak on a ledge. It offers an impressive view of the old town and new town of Arnsberg.

The building stock of the Ehms memorial was last extensively renovated from mid-December 2011 to autumn 2012. The Eichholzverein tries to maintain the memorial.
