The honorary plaque of the Minister for Higher and Technical Schools of the GDR for "services to the university and technical college training" was a high distinction of the Minister for higher and technical schools of the GDR .

This was regulated in the order III-6-4 4225-76 Ag 127-1636-77-100 on the awarding of the "honor plaque" of the Minister for higher education and technical education "For services to higher and technical education" and the entry in the Book of Honor of the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education .

This award was given to personalities who had made a special contribution to the socialist development of higher education and technical schools in the GDR. The award was linked to the entry in the book of honor of the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education. The award of the plaque and the entry in the book of honor was published in the magazine " Das Hochschulwesen " and in the magazine "Die Fachschule".

The plaque is round and made of bronze . It has a diameter of 12 cm. On the front is the portrait of Gerhard Harig with the inscription “Prof. Dr. Gerhard Harig ”. On the back there is the state coat of arms with the inscription "For services to higher and technical education" "Minister for higher and technical education". The plaque of honor was not wearable. It was presented in a two-tone luxury leather box. The words “MINISTER FOR UNIVERSITY AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION” were embossed on the front cover and the words “FOR MERIT FOR UNIVERSITY AND SPECIALIST EDUCATION” were embossed on the front.

A copy of this badge is in the Federal Archives (BArch) in Berlin under the signature - DR 3, 2nd layer 4191.
