The Borgarfjarðarvegur near Eiðar

Eiðar is a settlement in the east of Iceland .
The place is 14 km north of Egilsstaðir on Borgarfjarðarvegur
and has 40 inhabitants. Visible from afar is the 220 m high long-wave - Eiðar longwave transmitter which by the Icelandic broadcasting is operated.
The largest buildings in Eiðar belonged to the school. There was an agricultural school here since 1883 , which worked until 1919. An elementary school was then operated until 1998 . Now the school belongs to the Menntaskólinn á Egilsstöðum ( grammar school ). The school buildings were designed by well-known Icelandic architects such as Guðjón Sigvaldason, Rögnvaldur Ólafsson and Sigvaldi Thordarson.
