The Städtische Eichendorff-Gymnasium Bamberg (short: EG ) is a linguistic as well as economics and social science high school for girls in Bamberg . It is named after the poet Joseph von Eichendorff .
history
In 1880 the daughter's school association at that time rented several rooms in Karolinenstrasse to set up a non-denominational girls' school. A short time later the property at Vorderer Bach 6 was acquired for the club school.
According to a decree of the state school regulations, the school was called from 1911 Higher Girls School .
In 1918 the city of Bamberg took over the school, which from 1924 was called the Städtisches Mädchenlyzeum . In addition, after the sixth grade there was a one-class women's school.
In 1938, the number of teachers at the Bach School doubled because of the ban on teaching monastic teachers.
When the school was resumed in 1945, the Bach School consisted of the girls ' upper secondary school , the girls' middle school and the women's school. The secondary school later emerged from the girls' high school.
In 1965 the Bach School moved to the new building on Kloster-Langheim-Straße. The name Eichendorff-Gymnasium was coined by the then headmistress Annemaria Schalast (born November 2, 1913 in Königshütte (Upper Silesia) , † February 8, 2008 in Bamberg).
In 1977 an extension with biology rooms, library and multi-purpose room was built and moved into. In 1980 the Society of Friends of the Eichendorff Gymnasium was founded to provide the school with ideal and material support. In 2005 further renovations took place in order to meet the requirements of the eight-level grammar school.
Since 2009 the grammar school has been one of around 75 Bavarian schools with the title " School without Racism - School with Courage ".
The Eichendorff-Gymnasium has had the official status of a Fairtrade school since 2013 . In order to be able to use this title, for example, “ Fairtrade ” must be addressed in at least two grades in two subjects and a school campaign on this subject must be carried out per school year. Another condition is the sale of fair trade products at the school.
