Eigengut Schimke

Eigengut-Schimke (also Schimke-Gut , Schimke-Weiler and Chutor Schimke ) was a hamlet-like settlement in Bessarabia that was inhabited by Bessarabian Germans . The now- defunct estate was located west of Karnalijiwka , today in the Ukrainian district of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyj .

history

The establishment of the place goes back to Gottlieb Schimke (1844–1909), who ran a farm in Paris and was also high school there. Schimke achieved great prosperity , especially with the cattle trade to nearby Odessa . In 1894 he acquired 500 Dessjatinen (546.25 hectares) steppe land between Bairamtscha and Manasche , through whose northwest corner the important post road from Sarata to Akkerman led. After a well had been dug there for the water supply, he had a courtyard with a house and farm buildings built for himself in 1895. In 1896/97 another four courtyards were added, and after 1900 another courtyard complex. The farms were owned by the founder Schimke or his sons and sons-in-law. In the village, which had around 60 inhabitants in 1940, there was also a large orchard and a building used for school and church services, and in 1907 an own prayer house with a sexton was added.

As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Red Army occupied Bessarabia at the end of June 1940. After the conclusion of a resettlement agreement between the Soviet Union and the German Reich in September 1940, the residents were given the opportunity to resettle on a voluntary basis. Probably all entitled persons made use of this, especially out of fear of the uncertain future in the Soviet system. Nothing is known about the further development of the settlement. However, it is likely that the buildings fell into disrepair and were demolished during the Soviet era.
