Eighth Blackbird

Eighth Blackbird (own spelling eighth blackbird ) is a six-member American classical ensemble from Chicago . You are a three-time Grammy Award winner.

Career

The name of the ensemble is a reference to the eighth verse of the poem Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird by Wallace Stevens . Founded Eighth Blackbird 1996 by music students from the College out. They have had to be reassigned twice since then. They are ensemble in residence at the Universities of Chicago and Richmond, among others.

The ensemble plays contemporary classical and avant-garde music, some of which were written especially for them by composers such as Jennifer Higdon and Steve Reich . In 2008 they were first awarded a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance for Strange Imaginary Animals . Two further awards with the most important US music award were made in 2012 and 2013.
