Eikspon ( Low German name for "Eichkrug") is a brand name for a Mecklenburg country wine .

origin

The small Stargarder Land wine-growing region for country wine is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District near the district town of Neubrandenburg and includes the locations of Burg Stargard and Rattey. Rattey Castle is the largest north German winery with 4.75 hectares. Here Mecklenburg country wine, white, rosé and red, dry and semi-dry are pressed, expanded and bottled.

Part of the 2013 vintage was matured for the first time at Schloss Rattey in spring 2014 in untoasted oak barrels with a volume of 500 l each. The red wine previously went through what is known as biological acid degradation , in which malic acid is broken down into milder lactic acid.

Since German wine law does not provide for barrel storage for country wine, the white and red Mecklenburg country wine came onto the market in December under the protected brand name "Eikspon".
