A song goes around the world (song)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A song goes around the world is the title of a song that the Viennese composer Johannes Mayer published under his stage name Hans May in 1933 in the Viennese Bohème-Verlag. Ernst Neubach wrote the text for it .

background

The song in a moderate marching rhythm was the title hit of the sound film of the same name by Richard Oswald from 1933. It was sung by the tenor Joseph Schmidt , who played one of the three main roles alongside Victor de Kowa and Charlotte Ander . The song was also a hit outside of the film, which was sold on numerous gramophone records . On some labels it was also announced as “ Tango” or “Lied und Tango”. There were also purely instrumental recordings such as B. the dance orchestra of Oscar Joost or Barnabás von Géczy .

In addition to the original recording with Joseph Schmidt, the recording of the Comedian Harmonists also gained importance. The song was also interpreted by numerous other contemporary tenors, including Carl Jöken and Herbert Ernst Groh . Even after the Second World War , tenors like Rudolf Schock , Fritz Wunderlich , Karel Gott (1974) and Jonas Kaufmann recorded the hit. He became an evergreen and is known to this day.

The Hungarian director Géza von Bolváry shot a remake of the material in 1958 as a biography of Joseph Schmidt under the title "A song goes around the world - The Joseph Schmidt Story".

Text refrain

A song goes around the world.
A song you like.
The melody reaches the stars.
We all love to hear it.
The song sings of love, the song
sings of fidelity,
and it will never fade away, it will be singed
forever.
Time flies too,
The song stays forever.
