Einar Forseth
Einar Forseth (born August 7, 1892 in Linköping , † December 5, 1988 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish artist. Forseth's best-known work is the archaic Golden Hall in Stockholms stadshus , based on Byzantine models . He has also emerged as a designer of glass windows and church interiors and as a designer of porcelain, furniture, tapestries (e.g. in the conference hall of the World Council of Churches, Geneva) and postage stamps .
Life
After studying at the Stockholm Art Academy (1913–1916) and trips abroad to France, Italy, Spain and Germany (1919–22), Forseth was still a very young artist and received his most important commission: the design of the “Golden Hall” in Stockholm. The central allegorical figure of the Queen of Lake Mälaren (Mälardrottningen) was particularly controversial after its completion (1923).
