Introductory phase

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The introductory phase is a one-year transition from the intermediate level to the upper secondary level . If the Abitur is taken after 12 school years (G8), the introductory phase is in the 10th grade , in the Abitur after 13 school years ( G9 ) the introductory phase is in the 11th year. The two school years following the introductory phase are referred to as the qualification phase at German high schools because only the achievements (“qualifications”) of the last two school years are included in the Abitur grade.

The introductory phase is intended to enable the pupils to make an easier transition from the class-related secondary level I to the course system of the upper secondary level , in which the lessons do not take place in class groups but according to individual timetables .

In the introductory phase there is often a mixed form of teaching in class and in courses, especially if it is in the 10th grade. Only certain subjects can then be chosen in courses. In some federal states there are already advanced courses to get to know their way of working and, under certain circumstances, to change again. In the case of G8, the introductory phase is a hybrid of secondary level I and II.

If, on the other hand, the introductory phase is in the 11th year, the grading is often switched from the six-level intermediate level to the 16 levels of the upper level. The intermediate level ends after the 10th grade, so that the introductory phase in G9 is completely assigned to the upper secondary level.
