Emergency site hygiene is the study of maintaining the health of rescue personnel and, in particular, fire brigade personnel at emergency locations . To implement this teaching, various goals are aimed at:

This topic is already part of the curriculum during training .

activities

The necessary measures are described in the operations manager manual and in the FwDV 500. Responsible for the measures to be carried out is, in addition to the emergency services themselves, the operations manager , who is also responsible for ordering further measures if necessary. In principle, hygiene measures must always be initiated if the occurrence of harmful substances is to be expected. The following pollutants can occur: smoke , toxic gases , acids and alkalis , unhealthy liquids, germs and bacteria , ionizing radiation as well as solids, liquids and gases with different, unknown but dangerous contents in unknown compositions.

At the scene

In addition to other measures, it is mandatory to wear personal protective equipment during an operation . Further mission-specific protective equipment such as respiratory protection and / or chemical protection suits may also be used when instructed by the operations management team. In addition to other criteria, all vehicles must be set up in such a way that no hazardous substances can enter the crew cabins. Eating and drinking is prohibited in the danger area; outside of the danger area, only after appropriate hygiene measures, such as adequate cleaning of face and hands, are permitted. Further measures are to be carried out according to the mission and the instructions of the operations management.

After the mission

After the deployment, the deployment site must be secured against unauthorized access. All objects soiled (contaminated) such as clothing, equipment and vehicles must be cleaned with water on site. The polluted water may have to be collected and disposed of separately. If there are indications of particularly dangerous pollutants, an appropriate decontamination must be carried out. Correct transport of possibly contaminated objects must be ensured, for example by transporting them in plastic bags. The operations management will decide on further measures.

At the location

The black-and-white principle must be adhered to in the guard wherever possible : The operational clothing must be removed in the dirty area (“black”), then a shower must be taken. Then clean clothes are put on in the clean area (“white”). It is forbidden to enter the clean areas (lounges etc.) with dirty work clothing. Input materials must also be cleaned properly.
