Eiras is a former municipality in Portugal . It is a district of the city of Coimbra .

history

As São Tiago de Eiras, the village was an independent district on the northwestern outskirts of Coimbra. Various administrative reforms were carried out during the Liberal Revolution of 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg . The district of São Tiago de Eiras was possibly dissolved as early as 1836, at the latest since 1842 Eiras has been a municipality of the Coimbra district.

In 2013, the municipality of Eiras was merged with São Paulo de Frades to form a new municipality.

The former municipality ( Freguesia ) belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Coimbra . The community had a total area of ​​9.8 km² and 12,075 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
