Eiras is a former municipality in Portugal . It is a district of the city of Coimbra .
history
As São Tiago de Eiras, the village was an independent district on the northwestern outskirts of Coimbra. Various administrative reforms were carried out during the Liberal Revolution of 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg . The district of São Tiago de Eiras was possibly dissolved as early as 1836, at the latest since 1842 Eiras has been a municipality of the Coimbra district.
In 2013, the municipality of Eiras was merged with São Paulo de Frades to form a new municipality.

The former municipality ( Freguesia ) belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Coimbra . The community had a total area of 9.8 km² and 12,075 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal on September 29, 2013, Eiras was merged with the municipality of São Paulo de Frades to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Eiras e São Paulo de Frades . Eiras became the headquarters of the new municipality.
