Antequera railway test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Antequera Railway Test ( Spanish Centro de ensayos de alta tecnología ferroviaria de Antequera ) was a planned railway test facility near the southern Spanish city of Antequera . According to the Spanish government, the plant should be the largest of its kind once it has been completed. Construction work was originally scheduled to start in 2011 and last four years. However, the private sector participation in the form of a public-private partnership was not put out to tender until summer 2013.

Three test rings should be created for the system:

  • Ring 1 with a length of 55 kilometers, including a straight line of nine kilometers in length, which should allow tests of high-speed trains with a speed of up to 520 km / h (other sources mentioned a maximum speed of 450 km / h). The ring should be made in standard gauge .
  • Ring 2 with a length of 20 kilometers should allow speeds of up to 220 km / h. It should have a three-rail track in standard gauge and Iberian broad gauge .
  • Ring 3 with a length of five kilometers was intended to test local trains.

The builder of the facility was the Spanish railway infrastructure operator Adif . The amount of the investments was put at 344 million euros. A citizens' initiative organized protests against the project.

No bids from the private sector were received in response to the 2013 tender; According to the European Commission, there is currently no interest in the development of high-speed vehicles with a top speed of 520 km / h. The project was discontinued when the European funding period expired at the end of 2015. In 2016, the European Commission asked the Spanish government to recall the subsidies already granted from state and European funds amounting to € 140.7 million, as the subsidy was not compatible with Community law.
