The Langenhagen Horse Market – Hanover Airport railway is a main line in the area of the city of Langenhagen in the Hanover region and serves to connect Hanover-Langenhagen Airport to local public transport. Since it opened on May 28, 2000, it has been served exclusively by the Hanover S-Bahn .

course

Shortly after the Langenhagen horse market station, the line branches off in a westerly direction from the Hanover – Buchholz railway line that runs northwards at this point . It then runs almost directly in a westerly direction and crosses the A 352 . Shortly before the Hanover Airport train station , a notch begins in which the line bends in a south-westerly direction and flows into the underground station.

The S-Bahn station is a terminus and the only station on the route. The station has two platform tracks that unite in the tunnel area to form a single track. However, the access ramp to the station is wide enough to retrofit a second track.

The electronic signal box in Langenhagen is responsible for the route ; the dispatcher is located in the operations center north in Hanover.

business

Normally, the route is used by the S5 line to Hameln - Paderborn . During major trade fairs at the Hanover Exhibition Center , the S8 line also runs to Hanover Messe / Laatzen station .

A trial run had already taken place on the route from March 3, 2000.

accident

On June 29, 2000 an accident occurred on the ramp of the S-Bahn station, in which two trains of the 423 series collided. The arriving train was delayed when the departing train left the station on time and ran over a signal indicating that it was stopping. After the automatic braking , the driver started again and drove towards the arriving train. Due to the routing, the oncoming train was only visible shortly before the collision.
