The Kuhseeheide is a small gravel heather in the Augsburg-Hochzoll district and is part of the "Stadtwald Augsburg" nature reserve.

location

The Kuhseeheide is located south-southeast of the artificially created and eponymous Kuhsee - the water used to be used as a watering place for cows. The open grass biotope is embedded in an alluvial forest belt, which is bounded in the east by agricultural land and the Augsburg - Munich railway line. In the west, the alluvial forest meets a hiking and cycling path that runs between the alluvial forest and the dike to the eastern bank of the Lech.

Heathland

On the Kuhseeheide, as on all Lechheides, there is a great diversity of species. On the Lech and in its heaths, there are also atypical plants that come from the Mediterranean and the continental steppes of Eastern Europe. The Lech acts as a transport route for the plant seeds. The botanists therefore refer to the Lech as a Florenbrücke. The immigrated plant species are followed by their pollinators, such as bees, butterflies and other insects, without which the immigrants could not spread.

A small selection of species are the Black and Purple Columbine , the German Enzian , the Turk's cap lily, the Crimson broomrape and the sky Blue Bluebird and the wood ant .
