Astra Rail Industries ( ARI ) is a Romanian freight wagon manufacturer. The company was previously known as International Railway Systems (IRS) . After the insolvency of what was then Europe's largest wagon construction company in 2012, it was bought by Thomas Manns , a German investor.
In October 2016, The Greenbrier Companies announced that they would merge their European operations with Astra Rail Industries. Greenbrier will hold a 75% stake in the joint venture .
The production capacity is up to 5,000 freight cars per year.
Locations
Astra Vagoane Călători was founded in 1891, the wagon factory in Turnu Severin in 1882 and the wagon factory in Caracal in 1973.
