Felixdorf railway accident

In the Felixdorf railway accident on the night of February 5 to 6, 1921, an express train collided with a freight train on the Austrian Southern Railway on the Vienna - Wiener Neustadt route . Seven travelers died and 14 were seriously injured.

Starting position

The express train from Italy via Klagenfurt , which was scheduled to arrive at Vienna Südbahnhof at 9:40 p.m., was more than three hours late. Unusually heavy snowfall affected communication between the stations, so that the express train was stopped at many stations where it would have passed according to the timetable. The locomotive driver of the freight train had overlooked the stop signal and had driven too far into the station. At that moment the express train from Klagenfurt approached and hit the front part of locomotive 629.12 of the freight train at full speed . consequences

The two locomotives, eight cars of the express train and some freight cars were badly damaged. According to an official report by the Südbahn , five passengers were killed, 16 seriously and numerous slightly injured. Of the seriously injured, two subsequently succumbed to their injuries.
