Khatauli railway accident

In the railway accident Khatauli derailed on 19 August 2017 at the express station of Khatauli , in the district of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh , India . 24 people died.

Starting position

The Kalinga Utkal Express traveled from Puri in Odisha to Haridwar in Uttarakhand , a journey of about 36 hours. The train consisted of a locomotive and 23 cars.

Work was in progress at Khatauli on the track. The management was not informed of this.

the accident

The train drove on the construction site without the dispatcher or engine driver knowing. Rail connections were loosened here, and the associated fastening elements were found on the other side of the track during the accident investigation. 14 carriages of the train derailed here around 5:45 p.m. A car crashed into a house.

consequences

24 people died and 154 were injured. 200 meters of track were damaged. One junior engineer and 12 track workers were subsequently laid off.
