Muzaffarnagar is a city ( Nagar Palika Parishad ) in the northwest Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Muzaffarnagar is located in the Ganges plain at an altitude of 248 m, 100 km north-northeast of the federal capital New Delhi . The city is 65 km from the Siwaliks , between the rivers of Yamuna in the west and the Ganges in the east. The city is the seat of the district of the same name . The national highway NH 58 ( Roorkee - Meerut ) runs through the city in a north-south direction. The Deoband - Khatauli railway line passes Muzaffarnagar.
