Nishapur railway accident
The Nishapur railway accident occurred on February 18, 2004 in the city of Nishapur (also Neyschabur ) in Iran when a freight train laden with chemicals exploded. At least 320 people were killed. Around 460 firefighters and villagers were injured, some seriously, in this accident.
According to the competent authorities, one had freight train for unknown reasons with 51 freight cars made independently and drove leaderless down to the station of Khayyam in the northeast of the country, where it derailed and fire came. Many helpers were injured during the rescue work because an explosion did not occur until five hours after the incident . This indicated an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale at the earthquake station in Tehran . The bang could still be heard in the provincial capital of Mashhad , 75 kilometers away .
There were 17 wagons loaded with sulfur , 6 with fuel , 7 with highly flammable fertilizers and 10 with cotton . Most of the fire had already been extinguished when some of the wagons exploded. It was only this explosion that caused the large number of dead and injured. Many of them by collapsing buildings due to the force of the explosion.
