Iron pagoda of Chongjue Temple

The iron pagoda of the Chongjue Temple ( Chinese  崇 觉 寺 铁塔 , Pinyin Chóngjué sì tiětǎ , English Iron Tower at Chongjue Temple ) in the city of Jining in the east Chinese province of Shandong dates from the time of the Northern Song Dynasty .

The Chongjue Temple ( Chóngjué sì崇 觉 寺) was founded in the 1st year of the Northern Qi Dynasty (560), in the 4th year of the Chongning Era (1105) of the Northern Song Dynasty , the iron pagoda was built and the temple changed the name to Iron Pagoda Temple ( Tiětǎ sì铁塔 寺).

The cast iron octagonal body of the iron pagoda has nine storeys and two brick storeys at its base; H. the structure comprises a total of eleven storeys. Its total height is 23.8 m; the structure resembles a wooden pagoda in the style of a tower.

Originally the pagoda had only seven upper floors, two were added in 1581 during renovations during the Ming Dynasty .

The pagoda is now on the site of the Jining City Museum .

The iron pagoda of Chongjue Temple ( Chongjue si tieta ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (3-146) since 1988 .
