Jining ( Chinese 濟寧 市 / 济宁 市 , Pinyin Jǐníng Shì ) is a district-free city in the east Chinese province of Shandong . It has an area of 11,285 km² and 8.35 million inhabitants (2016). 939,034 people live in the actual urban settlement area (2010 census).
Jining has developed into a typical Chinese industrial city in recent years. But it also has historically significant sights to offer, for example the city wall from the time of the Ming dynasty is still partially preserved. In addition, part of Qufu , home of Confucius to the administrative area of Jining.
Administrative structure
At the county level, Jining is made up of two city districts , seven districts and two independent cities . These are:
- Rencheng district (任 城区), 920 km², 1.5 million inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- Yanzhou District (兖州 区), 648 km², 600,000 inhabitants;
- District Weishan (微山县) 1,780 km², 690,000 inhabitants;
- Yutai district (鱼台 县), 654 km², 450,000 inhabitants, capital: Guting municipality (谷 亭镇);
- County Jinxiang (金乡县), km² 885, 610,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Jinxiang (金乡镇);
- Circle Jiaxiang (嘉祥县), 973 square kilometers, 780,000 inhabitants, capital: large village Jiaxiang (嘉祥镇);
- Wenshang district (汶上 县), 877 km², 730,000 inhabitants, capital: Wenshang municipality (汶上 镇);
- Sishui County (泗水县), 1,070 km², 600,000 inhabitants;
- Liangshan County (梁山 县), 963 km², 720,000 inhabitants, capital: Liangshan Township (梁山 镇);
- City of Qufu (曲阜 市), 896 km², 640,000 inhabitants;
- City of Zoucheng (邹城市), 1,619 km², 1.12 million inhabitants.
