history

The tomb of the king of the Sulu Islands, which is tended by the local Hui , is particularly interesting and culturally and historically valuable in Dezhou . The grave is located in the north of Decheng downtown district, in a small village called Beiying. 710 Hui (1990) live here, the majority of whom are descendants of two sons ( An dulu and Wen hala) of a king of the indigenous people of the Sulu Islands (today's Philippines ). The Sulu king had been on a state visit to the court of the Ming Dynasty in Yongle 15 (1417) with a delegation of 340 people and died on the way home in Dezhou. His two younger sons stayed at the grave, entered into marriage relationships with three local Hui families (Xia, Ma, and Chen), and formed the An and Wen families . In Yongzheng 9 (1731), their descendants, which had grown to 193 people, were granted Chinese citizenship by the Qing Emperor. The tomb of the King of Sulu has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 1988 .
