Dongying ( Chinese  東營 市  /  东营 市 ) is a prefecture -level city in the east Chinese province of Shandong . Dongying has an area of ​​7,923 km² and about 1.75 million (2002) inhabitants.

Dongying is administratively divided into two districts and three districts:

  • Dongying district (东营 区), 1,155 km², approx. 570,000 inhabitants;
  • Hekou district (河口 区), 2,139 km², approx. 200,000 inhabitants;
  • Kenli district (垦利 县), 2,204 km², approx. 210,000 inhabitants;
  • Lijin district (利津县), 1,287 km², approx. 290,000 inhabitants;
  • Guangrao County (广饶 县), 1,138 km², approx. 480,000 inhabitants.

The city was founded in 1983. It is an industrial city. Near Dongying is the Shengli oil field, which is one of China's largest oil fields. Putonghua (Mandarin) is spoken in Dongying .
