The Pyongyang ice rink is an ice rink in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang . It was built on Chollima Street from June 1980 to December 1981 and officially opened in April 1982.
architecture
The circular hall has a gross floor area of 25,000 square meters and offers 6,000 seats over four tiers, making it the largest ice rink in North Korea. The ice surface is 30 meters wide and 60 meters long. The height of the conical building is 63.50 meters.
The entrances are all around the building, which has 24 sloping pillars on the outside. The vestibule is clad with natural paving stone and round tiles.
The round roof is equipped with twelve meters of hanging chandeliers. The break rooms for athletes and referees, as well as a repair workshop, first aid rooms, offices and other infrastructural rooms are located in the basement area.
use
The hall is mainly used for ice hockey games and figure skating competitions, but is also suitable for other sporting events. Competitions in table tennis , basketball and volleyball have already taken place here .
In March 2007, the ice hockey world championship for women in Division II was held in the hall .
