Eitan APC
The Eitan APC (Eitan Armored Personnel Carrier, Hebrew Eitan; "Steadfast") is an Israeli 8 × 8 armored personnel carrier.
history
The Eitan has been in development as the successor to the M113 since October 2015. The armored car was built and developed by Israel Aerospace Industries , Israel Military Industries and Rafael . The first copy was completed on August 1, 2016. It is much lighter and faster than the previous Namer troop transport (converted Merkava 4) .
technology
According to the Israeli army, the Eitan will become one of the best-protected armored vehicles in the world. The protection against mines and the strong armor are relevant. The vehicle has a V-shaped underbody, which improves protection against landmines and booby traps , as well as an NBC protection system. Compared to tracked vehicles, armored vehicles are better suited for use on roads and achieve a higher speed there. The Eitan costs around half of the current Namer tank to buy and maintain .
The modular structure of the tank makes it possible to install a variety of weapons on board. Including a 40 mm cannon, mortar or rocket launcher . In the Israeli Army version, it will be equipped with a remotely controlled, fully stabilized Samson MkII turret with a 30mm MK-44 dual-feed cannon, a coupled 7.62mm machine gun and an ATGM starter. Air conditioning is part of the basic equipment .
The digital fire control system , in conjunction with the networked battlefield communication and electronic countermeasures, makes the Eitan a superior and modern troop transport. The digital control system ensures synchronization with other combat vehicles.
The armor consists of armor steel and composite armor (AMAP). The mine protection strength corresponds to class Vb according to STANAG 4825 against 12 kilograms of TNT under the tub. The Eitan is equipped with the Trophy system for distance-active protective measures , which weighs around 1 ton and can destroy missiles and smaller projectiles on approach.
