Ekobrottsmyndigheten ( State Office for Economic Crime ) is a Swedish national authority established in 1998. The authority has 560 employees and its headquarters are in Stockholm .

tasks

Ekobrottsmyndigheten's main tasks are the prevention, investigation and prosecution of white-collar crime. The preventive work includes information for small business owners, who are often unfamiliar with the rules, and training at vocational schools. The investigation and prosecution mainly covers tax evasion , balance sheet falsification , bankruptcy crimes and violations of the law for public companies. The agency also has an anti- bribery unit . The investigations are often carried out in cooperation with other authorities, mainly tax authorities and customs . The Authority is also one of the bodies that expresses itself in the Swedish legislative process on draft laws covering the area of ​​economic crime. Ekobrottsmyndigheten only deals with cases of more serious crime; simple crimes such as fraud are dealt with by the police . The agency is also charged with developing methods of combating crime, also in cooperation with other agencies. In the context of the cross-border fight against fraud within the EU, Ekobrottsmyndigheten is the competent contact authority in OLAF cooperation . Investigations into the financing of terrorism and requests for legal assistance from other countries also fall within the remit of the agency. The average processing time for cases is six months.

Ekobrottsmyndighetens staff includes 107 public prosecutors and 200 police officers with special skills, 80 investigators in various fields and 60 administrative employees. The annual budget is 610 million crowns (approx. 66 million euros).
