history

The first satellite of this type was launched in 1976. The transmitter on board at Ekran had enough energy (200  W ) to supply every Siberian household with a TV signal. Ekran used a simple Yagi-Uda antenna for transmission . A modified version of Ekran was called Ekran-M.

In total, the Russian space agency launched around 30 Ekran satellites by 2001. The Ekran satellites have been replaced by improved geostationary DBS satellites such as Gorisont , Gals and Express .
