Ekran
Ekran ( Экран, Russian for screen ) was a type of Soviet geostationary satellite that was developed for a national satellite television system. This was the world's first satellite television for private households.
history
The first satellite of this type was launched in 1976. The transmitter on board at Ekran had enough energy (200 W ) to supply every Siberian household with a TV signal. Ekran used a simple Yagi-Uda antenna for transmission . A modified version of Ekran was called Ekran-M.
In total, the Russian space agency launched around 30 Ekran satellites by 2001. The Ekran satellites have been replaced by improved geostationary DBS satellites such as Gorisont , Gals and Express .
