Elín Ortiz

Elín Ortiz (born December 14, 1934 in Ponce , † June 12, 2016 in Miami ) was a Puerto Rican television producer and actor .

Career

Ortiz graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in history with an emphasis on theater history. After graduating, he worked for the radio station WIPR as a writer, director and actor in programs such as De mi ayer . He later also took on small roles in telenovelas. As one of the main characters of the program La taberna India , he became known to a larger television audience in 1961. At the same time he founded the theater company El Cerní with Myrna Vázquez, Marcos Betancourt, Jacobo Morales and Alicia Moreda.

In the mid-1960s, the El Cerní group performed the piece El fabricante de deudas by Salazar Bondi, in which Orziz took on the role of manufacturer Obedot. Furthermore, he played the Don Goyito in Bienvenido Don Goyito , Don Crispulo in La Cuarterona , the Alfonso in El Cuervo and in El baúl de los disfraces the Cheito BuGaLu . He was involved as a co-producer and actor in the film production Luna de miel en Puerto Rico .

In 1969 he co-produced the Show de Varilla , on which Iris Chacón took part, which became a star in television programs he produced. He was married to her until 1975. Later he began to promote the young singer and actress Charytín Goyco , who became known under the stage name Charytín . He was married to her from 1978. Their children are the actors Shalim Ortiz and Sharinna Allan and the cameraman Alexander Goyco.

Ortiz was also successful as a singer and comedian on television and won a Peabody Award in the USA with the special Las rosas blancas . He also produced political satirical programs such as Qué pueblito and El pueblito nius . In the 1990s he lived in the USA for a few years, where he made programs for Spanish-language television programs. In 1998 he realized a satirical program for the Telemundo radio program in Puerto Rico. Ortiz has suffered from diabetes and Alzheimer's disease in recent years . He died at the age of almost 81.
