El Comercio ( Spanish Trade ) is an Ecuadorian daily newspaper , by the Grupo El Comercio CA is issued. The newspaper was founded in 1906 by the brothers César Mantilla Jácome (1877–1955) and Carlos Mantilla Jácome (1879–1970) in Quito , where it still appears today. It is the daily newspaper with the highest circulation in Quito.

The publishing company continues to be primarily owned by the Mantilla family. The group's chairman is Fabricio Acquaviva Mantilla. Carlos Mantilla Batlle has been President and General Manager since 2014. In addition to El Comercio , the newspaper Últimas Noticias and the radio stations Radio Quito and Radio Platinum also belong to the El Comercio group. Until 1985 Televisora ​​Nacional Canal 8 , today's TV broadcaster Ecuavisa , also belonged to the El Comercio group.

The newspaper has a long tradition. Among her employees were the later presidents José María Velasco Ibarra and Rodrigo Borja as well as numerous intellectuals and media workers , such as Carlos Vera , Nelson Estupiñán and Enrique Ayala .
