El Jueves

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

El Jueves ( Spanish for “Thursday”) is a Spanish weekly magazine from Barcelona that publishes humorous and satirical articles primarily in the form of comics . The magazine bears the slogan “La revista que sale los miércoles” (“The magazine that appears on Wednesdays”) and uses a naked court jester as its mascot.

history

The first edition of El Jueves appeared on May 27, 1977: At that time satirical magazines were very popular in Spain, although freedom of the press was restricted in the country. The first editors (cartoonists Tom, Romeu, JL Martín, and others) were inspired by French magazines such as Hara-Kiri and Charlie Hebdo , which they admired for their irreverent tone.

construction

An issue of El Jueves consists of 70 to 80 pages, which contain recurring comic series, caricatures and humorous articles. For example, a recurring section of the magazine is “Teníamos más portadas” (“We had more titles”), a collection of unused cover images that relate to current events.
