Elaine Ling

Elaine Ling (born December 19, 1946 in Hong Kong , † August 1, 2016 in Toronto ) was a Canadian doctor and photographer .

Life

Ling came to Canada with her parents when she was nine years old. She studied piano and cello music and graduated from the University of Toronto with a medical degree . After that she practiced as a general practitioner mainly among the peoples of the First Nations , the indigenous people of Canada, in the north and on the Pacific coast in northwest Canada. She also worked as a doctor in Nepal and Abu Dhabi .

In addition to her professional activities, Ling has observed and photographed the relationship between people and the surrounding nature over the course of thirty years on four continents. Since 2009, more than a dozen photo volumes have been created, including about Mongolia , Namibia , Myanmar , Ethiopia and Australia . When she wasn't taking photos, she worked as a general practitioner in Toronto and played the cello in an amateur orchestra in the city.
