William "Billy" Hood (* 1st quarter 1873 in Ashton-under-Lyne ; † unknown) was an English football player .

Career

Hood came to Newton Heath during the 1891/92 season , who were still playing in the Football Alliance at the time. In his first appearance, a 10-1 win over Lincoln City , Hood was successful as a two-time goalscorer and ended the season with Newton Heath in second place behind Nottingham Forest . For the 1892/93 season , the club was added to the Football League First Division . Although in the course of the season a 10-1 win again succeeded (against Wolverhampton Wanderers ), they ended the season behind in the bottom of the table and had to compete in a so-called "test match" against the Birmingham club Small Heath for the league's whereabouts. After a 1: 1 in the first clash, in which Hood had not participated, they stayed in the First Division through a 5: 2 success in the replay - Hood was here as an outside runner on the field. When winning the Manchester Senior Cup in 1893, however, he was not part of the squad.

Also in the following season Newton Heath occupied last place in the table and had to fight again in an elimination game to stay up. Against Liverpool FC - Hood formed the left attacking side with John Peden - they lost 2-0 and were relegated to the Second Division . During the season break, Hood left the club, for which he not only played in every attacking position except that of the center forward, but was also active as an outside runner and even a defender. He then played for the Stalybridge Rovers in the league The Combination .
