Elastic tire

As : elastic or Elastikbereifung designated be made entirely of rubber or other elastic plastics existing tires for land vehicles (today often " solid rubber tires ") before the introduction of (the outside of the same material produced, but instead of using a solid material with under pressure standing air or other gas ( mixture ) filled) pneumatic tires (cf. tires ).
Elastic tires differed from the solid rubber tires customary today only in their special profile .

Until the mid-1920s, elastic tires successfully competed with pneumatic tires, which were still very vulnerable at the time, due to their lower rolling resistance . The continuous further development of the latter, however, displaced elastic tires in niches.

Today, solid rubber tires are used in particular in model construction and on a large scale on special vehicles for internal works traffic , such as floor conveyors (e.g. forklifts ) or heavy- duty transport vehicles .
