Eleazar Fleckeles
Eleazar b. David Fleckeles (also Elieser b. David Fleckeles ; born August 26, 1754 in Prague , † April 27, 1826 ibid) was a rabbi , important preacher and Talmudist.
Fleckeles was a pupil of Ezechiel Landau , whom he recognized as a master for life. In 1779 he was appointed rabbi to Kojetein and later to Tobitschau in Moravia and in 1783 a member of Landaus Beth Din . As a rabbi in Prague, he later drew attention to himself with his sermons. There he led an intense fight against the Frankists and enjoyed a high reputation over the years as a rabbi and Jewish leader.
As an important representative of Jewish Orthodoxy, Fleckeles led a campaign against Moses Mendelssohn , Hartwig Wessely and the Haskala . He was an opponent of any reform of traditional Jewish teaching and enlightenment ideas. He criticized the "new freedoms" that spawned new sins, such as the neglect of Torah study in favor of other sciences.
His literary production in the field of Jewish learning was great, among which his collections of responses and the sermons, also published in several volumes, deserve special mention.
